MAP Ministry

The Ministry Apprenticeship Program (MAP) challenges students to consider missions as a vocation, and will often clarify the call of God in their lives. Participating in a MAP ministry with CBM provides hands-on experience in church planting and development, as well as exposure to CBM’s unique church building ministry.

Depending on the field and the abilities and experience of the MAPer, this apprenticeship may involve helping a Church Planter with:

  • Preaching
  • Teaching
  • Evangelism
  • Men’s & women’s meetings
  • Music
  • Children’s & youth ministries
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) ministries

The CBM Building Ministries also accommodate a variety of skills.

We believe that the MAP endeavor involves the following key players:

The MAPer’s Sending Church

MAP is a training ground for a future relationship with your local church, should the Lord lead you into vocational missions. You will learn the power of prayer support. You will have opportunity to share your burden before you go, and rehearse God’s work in your life upon return. Your church will be enriched by your venture in faith.

Continental Baptist Missions

CBM is actively involved in arranging opportunities alongside veteran missionaries, but does not assign a MAPer to a particular church plant or building project. Our plea is that “the Lord of the harvest would send out laborers into his harvest.” Our fervent hope is God will answer that plea in part by leading many MAPers to return as career church planters with CBM, following the completion of their education.

The MAPer’s Educational Institution

MAP is primarily designed for collegians and seminarians, single or married, who have a heart for missions. You may satisfy internship and graduation requirements through a MAP experience and receive credit in accord with the policies of your school. The length of the assignment is flexible, subject to the requirements of your school and the needs of the field.

The CBM Church Plant

By serving your MAP in a CBM mission church, your gifts and abilities can enrich the life of a young and growing congregation, likely with lasting effect.

Foreign missions exposure is great, but you don’t have to travel overseas to be involved in a MAP. There are challenging opportunities right here in North America!
