Become a Missionary with CBM

Qualifications for Missionary Service

Applicants Must:

  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Be in good standing as active members of a fundamental Baptist church
  • Have a clear sense of God’s leading into vocational ministry
  • Show evidence of spiritual maturity and a faithful walk with the Lord

Those applying as Church Planters should have a four-year Bible degree or the equivalent. Those seeking to be part of a team ministry who may not have a degree will also be considered. Church Builders are not required to have college, Bible college, seminary, or formal ministry training, though biblical training is encouraged. Work experience is recommended—however, we are most concerned that applicants possess a teachable spirit to learn on the job.

Application for Missionary Service

Applying with CBM as a missionary is a three-step process:

  1. Submit a Preliminary Missionary Questionnaire (PMQ). Upon receiving the completed PMQ, you and your pastor will be contacted by a CBM representative. It is important to discuss your decision and desire to pursue missionary service with your pastor prior to application.
  2. Complete and return the Missionary Service Application (MSA) provided to you following contact by a CBM representative. The MSA solicits references and background information, as well as your testimony and call to ministry. Additionally, you will receive two forms—the Declaration of Faith and the Policy on Separation—which must be signed and returned with the MSA.
  3. The final step in applying to CBM is completing the Doctrinal Questionnaire, a comprehensive document designed to summarize your understanding of the fundamentals of the Christian faith.

Successfully completing the application process does not ensure acceptance as a missionary with Continental Baptist Missions. Your application documents will be reviewed by the CBM administrative staff and screening committee. Only after approval by your local church and with a recommendation from the screening committee will an invitation to attend CBM’s Candidate School be extended to an applicant.

CBM’s Relationship with the Local Church

Continental Baptist Missions firmly believes it is the responsibility of the local church to send out missionaries—CBM exists to provide support services to assist churches in fulfilling their Great Commission calling. Therefore, each step taken by an applicant is carefully evaluated with the input of the local church. CBM will not accept an applicant without the support and approval of his or her local church.

If you need assistance as you weigh this decision, please do not hesitate to contact Brad Hoff, Field Director. You will not be pressured into any decision—our desire is to have you where the Lord wants you, when He wants you there.
