Bill was raised in the heart of the Rockies in Western Montana. Growing up in the mountains and isolated from towns and even neighbors, he would disappear into the wilderness for long stretches of time. His childhood offered abundant opportunities to observe nature in its majesty and beauty, sparking an early appreciation for God’s creation.

Hunting and fishing were a natural part of growing up. Bill started packing a rifle when he was 8. He shot his first deer at 12 on the mountain behind his house. He harvested his first elk when he was 15. He still claims that the creeks behind his childhood home offer the best fly-fishing in the world.

As a young man, Bill also worked as a logger, a millwright in sawmills, and a foreman in the copper industry.

Bill has enjoyed many exciting and thrilling (and dangerous) adventures in the woods, which he loves to share with others. From boulder rolling, catching a bear, or being chased by a moose and hooking a beaver with a fly rod (not at the same time), he finds the humor and practical advice in his experiences.

When Bill accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at age 19, he finally began to understand the unique connection between the lessons he learned in the woods and their application to day-by-day victorious Christian living. It is his desire to clearly weave Biblical truths with lessons learned in the woods as he tells his stories in a fashion that will encourage and challenge you to walk more closely with the Lord.

Bill and his high-school sweetheart Terri currently live in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but spend their free time back in the mountains where they grew up, working on a built-from-scratch log cabin.
